Porvoo–Kerava 1874

152 years of railway history — now a heritage railway

The Porvoo–Kerava railway opened on 18 November 1874, making it one of Finland's oldest railway lines. Today the museum section runs 16 km from Porvoo station to the Olli junction, crossing three historic steel bridges.

Porvoon museorautatie ry (Porvoo Heritage Railway Association) maintains the track and rolling stock entirely with volunteers. The railway became privately owned on 6 October 2025, and PMR is now fully responsible for its upkeep.

The Dm 7 Lättähattu

Built in the 1950s at Valmet's aircraft factory in Tampere, the Dm 7 is a diesel multiple unit railcar recognisable by its low flat roof — hence the nickname Lättähattu (flat hat). Valmet 815D engine, 180 hp, top speed 95 km/h.

Three steel bridges

The route crosses three historic steel truss bridges over the Porvoo river and its tributaries. The Ali-Vekkoski (Söderveckoski) railway bridge is one of the highlights of the journey; the Kiiala bridge was recently restored.
